Desktop Virtualization

Desktop virtualization is the decoupling of a users desktop and software from the users physical machine. "Virtualized desktops can be either client-hosted or centralized on servers in the data center- often referred to as a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) (Microsoft, 2009)." Desktop virtualization products emulate the PC environment of the client and run a virtual machine alongside the existing operating system located on the local machine or delivered to a thin client from a data center server.

Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) is designed to give system admins and end users the best of both worlds: the ability to host and centrally manage desktop virtual machines in the data center while giving end users a full, robust PC desktop experience.

Users will have an identical experience with a virtualized desktop of that of a physical PC through a thin client located remotely or in-office.

Desktop virtualization not only offers a complete ideal PC experience, but also "accelerates the delivery of desktops to office workers anywhere, enables stronger data protection and control, and reduces cost of desktop ownership by up to 40%"(Citrix, 2008).

Benefits to VDI:

Let us be your personal IT department at a fraction of the cost. The average pay of a system administrator is between $60k and $75k a year (salary.com). With our services and maintenance upkeep, your company will never need a full-time onsite IT employee again.
